Turn off Diorella Drive into Clover Park’s smaller streets and the signs start to read like a beauty-counter catalogue: Shalimar is a Guerlain perfume, Jontue comes from Revlon, Arden points to Elizabeth Arden, and nearby sit Almay, Rochas, Coty, Chamade and Ultima. Auckland Libraries’ street-name files class the area as a theme cluster that uses perfume names, and several road records list this neighbouring group again and again.

What turns the names into a story is timing. Diorella launched in 1972; Jontue appeared in 1976. An aerial photograph from April 1978 already shows the Clover Park subdivision beyond the motorway. That same month, Clover Park Community House opened. As the new suburb took shape, at least some street names came from a beauty-consumer world that was still fresh—set beside older names such as Shalimar and Elizabeth Arden, like lifting a whole department-store row, from luxury perfume to mass-market makeup, outdoors.

The map does not leave a clear signature. Existing sources do not tell us who chose the names, nor prove that every road appeared in a single naming round. The safer reading is that Clover Park borrowed an international, polished, easy-to-extend vocabulary for a fast-growing community; decades later, packaging and advertising have moved on, but the street signs still keep that beauty counter in place.
